South River
The town of South River is located just SE of North Bay, and the river itself actually flows northward into Lake Nippissing. South River is a river that was dammed to form the waterbody named Forest Lake in the town of South River. The reservoir is approximately 10kms long by 1-2km at the widest with the old river bed running near the centre. Access can be gained from our headquarters at the north end of the lake or about half way down on the west side.
South River was added to OKFS in 2010 and quickly became the “must attend” event of the Series due to the high catch rate and overall size of bass and pike. The lake has a good population of both LM/SM Bass and Northern Pike. This bodes well for our future events on this lake considering only two of the competitors had ever fished it prior, yet the majority filled their entry with quality fish. Unfortunately news of the success spread quickly amongst boat fishermen and several fishing shows were subsequently filmed on the system after our event The 2011 format has been modified to accommodate the three single day events that were added to OKFS in 2011. Only the first day results will count toward the Series points total, but the tournament winner will be determined by 2 days of scoring. There will once again be cash pot awarded to the largest pike over the 2 day event. Nomad Adventures starts the pot at $100 and the cost is $10ea to enter. Last year’s pot was just over $300. The minimum length to win the pot is 28”, otherwise the longest fish wins half and the pot carries over to the next event Tourney Schedule: Friday – arrival, set-up, registration Saturday: Fishing 6am-4pm – judging – pot luck dinner Sunday: Fishing – judging – prizes – BBQ |
